For aficionados of the classic ghost story, television has proved far more fertile ground than cinema for, depending on insinuation
and atmosphere far more than shocks and gore, such tales positively lend themselves to the greater limitations of the medium.
There have been numerous efforts over the years, with the Seventies proving their golden age and whilst some, such as the
BBC's Ghost Story for Christmas adaptations, are well remembered and justly acclaimed, others now languish in obscurity. I
am seeking to obtain and comment on as many examples as possible from both categories.
N.B. Where the production is based on a seminal work of supernatural literature, such as the M.R. James adaptations,
I will assume a basic familiarity with the plot.
